What to Do If You Test Positive

If you were recently diagnosed with COVID-19, we ask you to isolate at home and wait for Vilas County Public Health Department or the Department of Health Services (608 area code) to call you. Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases and delays in test results, it might take us 3-5 days before we call you.

While you wait for us to call, please take the following actions:

  • Stay at home and isolate yourself from others that you live with.
  • Notify your employer that you have COVID-19; do not go to work
  • Notify those you have had close contact with when you were ill and two days before symptoms started.
  • Create a list of these close contacts that includes names and phone numbers. You will be asked to provide a list of all the people you had close contact with two days before you first felt sick or had a positive test.
  • People in your family, and others you had close contact with, will be asked to stay home and monitor their symptoms to make sure they don’t get sick and infect others.
  • Call your medical provider if you have questions.  They can provide you with documentation for work, if needed.
  • Review frequent asked questions and fact sheets below

A person should remain in isolation for at least 10 days from the date symptoms first started AND at least 24 hours have passed being fever free without the use of fever reducing medications AND improvement in symptoms. A person who does not have symptoms should stay in isolation for at least 10 days after their positive test date.
