The Conover-Phelps Walking and Bicycling Trail - An 11-mile trail that will be 80% complete by fall of 2017. Right now, bike riders and walkers can enjoy the first 3.2 miles of the trail going from Conover's Community Park to the railroad grade that runs west of STH 45 then curves to go east to Muskrat Creek Road. An additional 5.5 miles, under construction now, should be finished by late September. It will extend the trail to a trailhead and parking area where CTH K meets Song Hill Lane, 2 miles outside of downtown Phelps. The towns of Conover and Phelps, in partnership with Vilas County and Great Headwaters Trails, started planning to construct this trail in 2010. The first section was completed in 2015. In the future the Town of Conover, in partnership with Great Headwaters Trails, plans to continue the trail south on the grade west of Hwy 45 taking it to Torch Lake Park, about 2 miles below Conover's business district. That would establish a continuous trail from Torch Lake Park to Phelps.
