Lac Vieux Desert Park at Wisconsin River Headwaters
Lac Vieux Desert Park is located on South Shore Road off County Highway E 2 ½ miles east of USH 45 near Land O’Lakes. This park, which features a historic marker, marks the Headwaters of the Wisconsin River. Yes, the Wisconsin River begins right here. The park borders beautiful 4,260 acre Lac Vieux Desert (“Lake of the Old Garden”), and offers diverse wildlife viewing opportunities and a wonderful view of the lake.
The parking area is located on South Shore Road and the park is accessed via footbridge over the Wisconsin River and a pathway lined with massive White Pine trees and other tree species of impressive size. Located within the park is a comfort station, and picnic area with tables and grills. The bridge, pathway, comfort station, and picnic area are all ADA compliant.
